Licensing

InsuranceBorder.com is a technology platform, not an insurer or agency. Every agent who receives a routed request holds an active producer license we verify against state records. Here is how that works and how to check it yourself.

01What InsuranceBorder.com is and is not

InsuranceBorder.com is a technology platform that connects consumers with independently licensed insurance professionals. We operate the quote request form, the agent directory, the routing engine, and the Agent Partner Portal.

InsuranceBorder.com is not an insurance company, does not underwrite or issue policies, does not collect premiums, and does not hold funds on behalf of consumers or carriers. Nothing on this site is an offer of insurance or a binder of coverage. Coverage is bound only when a licensed agent and the issuing carrier confirm it in writing.

Unless a specific page states otherwise, InsuranceBorder.com does not itself act as a producer or agency in any transaction. Advice, recommendations, quotes, and policy service are provided by the licensed agent your request is routed to, in their own professional capacity.

02Licensing of agents in the directory

Every agent listed in the directory or eligible to receive routed requests must hold an active resident or non-resident producer license in each state they are listed for, in the lines of authority (for example Property & Casualty, Life & Health, or Personal Lines) that match what they are listed to quote.

Agents attest to their license status when they apply, and again each time they update their profile. We verify license numbers against state Department of Insurance producer records and the NAIC National Insurance Producer Registry when an application is reviewed and periodically thereafter.

Agents are responsible for maintaining continuing education, appointments, and renewals on their own. The Partner Portal shows each agent the expiry dates on file and alerts them ahead of renewal, but the agent, not InsuranceBorder.com, is the licensee of record.

03How verification works

Verification confirms that a license exists and is active as of the check. It is not a guarantee of an agent’s competence, carrier appointments, or the availability of a particular product, and it is not a substitute for your own confirmation with the agent or your state’s Department of Insurance.

  • At application: the license number, state, and line of authority for every state the applicant wants to be listed in are checked against the issuing state’s producer lookup before the profile is published.
  • Ongoing: profiles are re-checked on a rolling basis and whenever an agent adds or edits a license record in the Partner Portal.
  • At routing time: a request is only routed to agents whose license records cover the consumer’s state and the requested line. A request is never routed to an agent whose license for that state has lapsed or is missing.
  • On expiry: when a license on file reaches its expiry date without a renewal being recorded, the agent stops receiving requests for that state and line until an updated record is verified.

04States and jurisdictions

InsuranceBorder.com currently routes requests in the states listed on the How It Works page and in the state selector on the quote form. Availability is controlled by jurisdiction: if no verified agent is licensed for your state and line, we will tell you before any agent is contacted rather than route your request out of state.

Products, carriers, and availability vary by state and are subject to licensing, appointment, eligibility, and underwriting requirements. A product or carrier mentioned on this site may not be available in your state.

We do not route requests for locations outside the United States.

05Platform disclosures

Where a state requires the operator of a platform like this one to hold a license, registration, or exemption to refer consumers to producers, InsuranceBorder.com maintains that registration or does not operate in that state. State-specific registration numbers, where applicable, are listed on this page below the registrations heading and updated when they change.

InsuranceBorder.com does not receive commissions on premiums. Agents pay a platform fee to participate in routing. That fee does not change the premium you pay, and agents do not pay more to receive any particular request.

06Registrations on file

The registrations below are placeholders for the operating entity’s actual filings and must be replaced before this page is published.

  • Operating entity: [Legal entity name], [state of formation].
  • Business address: [Street address], [City, State ZIP].
  • Texas: [Registration or exemption reference].
  • Georgia: [Registration or exemption reference].
  • Illinois: [Registration or exemption reference].
  • California, Florida, Washington: [Registration or exemption reference].

07Verify an agent yourself

You can always verify an agent independently. Every directory profile shows the license numbers on file. Each state Department of Insurance operates a public producer lookup where you can confirm a license is active, see its lines of authority, and check for disciplinary history. The NAIC also provides a consumer lookup at naic.org that covers every state.

If a number on a profile does not match what the state shows, or an agent contacts you claiming to be from InsuranceBorder.com but does not appear in our directory, tell us at ops@insuranceborder.com. We will investigate and suspend the profile while we do.

08Complaints and reporting

Concerns about an agent’s conduct, licensing, or handling of your request can be sent to ops@insuranceborder.com. We review every report, may remove or suspend an agent from routing, and will tell you the outcome where we are able to.

Complaints about an insurance policy itself, a claim, or a carrier should be directed to the carrier and, if unresolved, to your state Department of Insurance, which regulates both producers and insurers.

09Changes to this page

We update this page when we add or leave a state, change how verification works, or when our registrations change. The effective date and version above reflect the current text. Material changes are noted on the Partner Portal for agents and on this page for consumers.
